- Hi and thanks to all who replied to my first post. (I had looked on aminet but
- must have gone screenblind).
-
- Well finding the software was the easy bit (as ever). It installed nice and
- simply and ran first time. It presented me with its list of reflectors, I
- selected one , it connected & dl a list of senders/recievers and opened up a
- view window. It managed a few pkts recieved and tantalizingling put up a few
- blocks of image here and there. This however was where things started
- downhill. It would 'sieze up the comms'. After a few pkts rec the rd light on
- the modem would stop flashing and all i would get was an occasional flash on
- the sd modem light. If i opened a shell and ran ping i would get nothing
- returned (either no nameserver found or xpkts sent 0 rec).
-
- Anyway decided it was to do with my limited throughput (dont ask why had to
- start somewhere). I was running at 38400 baud using the serial.device and
- cslip protocol (via gwcslip). Started playing around with alternative
- serial.devices/baud rates. Had best results with 8n1.device and jacking the
- baud rate to 57600. This seemed to work with the rest of my tcp/ip setup but
- still no joy with cuseeme. The only differnce being when it seized it would
- leave the rd modem light full on but no more packets would arrive and
- i would get similar results with other tcp utils run in shells as before. So
- now I decided that it might be slip that was the problem so i thought i would
- change over to ppp instaed. 3 hrs later i started wishing i had never heard of
- cuseeme. 4hr later and i finally had my machine talking to my gateway
- machine again and now i was using ppp protocol. I did a few cursory test pings
- and it seemed a little slower than gwcslip (is thi because i am using the
- unregisterd version?) but it didn't seem to drop any packets either. And with
- cuseeme ? Well despite the first atempt behaving just as if i was still using
- gwcslip subsequent attempts have been sucssessful. Sucsessful being a relative
- term hear (sustained connection in the hight single figure mins). And what is
- it like. Well small monchrome output no sound and no send facilities but i
- still found it facsinating. Here was real video broadcast over the net and you
- cant help wondering if we will all be using something similar to not only
- vidoeconfrence but also to broadcast our own video feed (TV channels).
-
- Anyway if you are still with me then you probably think you are as tired as i
- feel. Hopefuly some guru wont be letting me know that all my messing with baud
- rates and serial devices and protocals has been a wast of time and it is just
- chance that it ended up 'working' in one setup or nother. When i feel more up
- to it i may set up slip again just to confirm it didnt work with cuseeme. Not
- now though. Anyway that me for the night just time to post this and have one
- last spin with cuseeme before i hit peak billing.
-
- Hope this has been of interest or even use to someone.
